Acupuncture

Acupuncture has been used to restore, promote and maintain good health for over 2000 years.

Rather than focusing on isolated symptoms, acupuncture is used to consider, diagnose and treat ‘the whole person’. As a result, many people find that it’s not just their initial condition or illness that improves; their energy levels may also increase and many report an enhanced sense of overall wellbeing – which goes some way to explaining its enduring appeal.

Sally Blades is a patient, intuitive and skilled practitioner with nearly 25 years of experience in acupuncture. She also lectures, tutors students and supervises fellow practitioners.

Starting out

From the word go, you’ll enjoy a supportive and equal relationship with Sally.

The process begins with an in-depth consultation, typically lasting one-and-a-half to two hours. At this meeting, you will be asked about your current health concerns, including the history and treatment of any specific conditions, plus overall health history, your diet and lifestyle, your work and any other factors that may be relevant.

An individual plan will then be drawn up, setting out the frequency of treatments with regular reviews to discuss your progress.

The treatment

Each treatment session lasts for forty-five minutes to one hour. During these sessions, very fine needles are inserted into specific acupuncture points on the meridian pathways. Qi (chi), vital energy or life force, flows around the body along these meridians, which are connected to the internal organs.

The sensation – often described as a tingling or dull ache – is brief and mild. And people commonly experience a pleasant feeling of deep relaxation during treatment.

Sometimes, moxa may be used. This is a smouldering herb that warms acupuncture points and enhances the beneficial effect of the needles. Chinese herbal remedies may also be recommended.

The practice is safe and can be of benefit to people of all ages – even babies.

The benefits

Acupuncture is a holistic therapy, benefiting body, mind, emotions and spirit.

Due to new regulations from the Advertising Standards Authority it is not permitted to mention any specific conditions that acupuncture can help. If you wish to enquire about a specific condition please get in touch with Sally.

Sally’s success as an acupuncturist lies in her ability to make a diagnosis from what can be complex patterns of disharmony. This is assisted by her deep understanding of Chinese medicine theory, which looks at how patterns arise.

As a result, you’ll receive useful information about the factors that have contributed to your condition – anything from diet, to overwork, to core beliefs, to emotional patterns. Sally can then work with you to bring about positive change.

Making progress

Sally is described by her clients as patient, intuitive, skilled, wise, calm and professional.

These qualities, coupled with her experience in the fields of personal development, neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) and coaching, mean Sally is uniquely placed to support you, both in making changes to improve your health now and in helping you to maintain it in the future.

‘My initial health problem was only the manifestation of quite a lot of other things – ‘the red light winking on the dashboard’ as Sally put it at our first meeting. We have since re-tuned the whole engine a number of times and I am far healthier, happier and more self-aware than before.’

Kathryn, library assistant and mother
